Williamsburg Urban chic meets hipster cool.
In the shadow of a Manhattan sunset, store windows on Bedford Avenue illuminate this restless Brooklyn neighborhood. Williamsburg has emerged as the new "hot-spot" for the ultra savvy. One stop from Manhattan on the L train, Bedford Ave is home to an endless amount of boutiques, vintage thrift shops, tattoo parlors, music studio's and roving warehouse parties. Weather you call yourself bohemian or beatnik, Williamsburg has something to offer any inde fashion sense.
In the 1980's, an over pour of artists left SoHo bound for Williamsburg. The cause? Cheap rent and convenient transportation. The community started small, but by 1996 Williamsburg had an artist population of about three thousand. This attracted visitors from all around the world wanting to get a taste of the emerging art scene. These revolutionaries laid the ground work for what the "burg" is today. Billy"berg", as some call it, is digs to some of the finest art and music in New York City. With such galleries as Pierogi and Fish Tank Gallery it's no surprise B.burg would produce a band like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Williamsburg allows you to pleasurably ingurgitate a tangle of art, culture, music and fashion. Only one stop from Manhattan's lower east side. The following photos were taken October 2005.
